September 1, 1963: Avengers #1 is published, Marvel’s attempt to copy DC Comics’ Justice League of America. Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk, Ant-Man and the Wasp take on Thor’s brother Loki.
The spy-themed TV show The Avengers had debuted in Britain 2 years earlier, but not in America until 1966. So, as far as most Americans knew, these Avengers came first.
Iron Man debuted wearing all-gray armor. By this point, he had switched to gold. Almost immediately, he switched to armor with a red body and yellow limbs.
In Avengers #3, the Hulk would go rogue, and the others would go after him. In Avengers #4, Captain America is thawed out. Eventually, others would be added, including the Vision, the Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye, Black Widow, and temporary members such as Spider-Man.
In 2008, the Marvel Cinematic Universe began. In 2012, the 1st Avengers movie was made.
In a LEGO-animated 2014 episode of the YouTube series Epic Rap Battles of History, "Epic" Lloyd Ahlquist provided the voice of Thor, albeit owing more to the original Norse version, with allusions to the comic book character and his film interpretation. "Nice" Peter Shukoff voiced Thor's opponent, Zeus, king of the Greek gods.
