Morgan Ensberg gave the Astros a 2nd-inning lead with a home run, and led 4-2 going to the bottom of the 7th. But Paul Konerko hit a grand slam to give the ChiSox a 6-4 lead. The Astros tied it in the top of the 9th inning. But with 1 out in the bottom of the 9th, Brad Lidge pitched to Scott Podsednik, who hit it into the right-center field bleachers, making the White Sox 7-6 winners. It was the 1st walkoff home run hit in World Series play by a Chicago-based player. The Pale Hose led the Series, 2-0, and completed the sweep in Houston 3 nights later.
Lidge had already given up a game-losing homer to Albert Pujols in the previous year's National League Championship Series, before the Astros won the Pennant in the next game. Lidge would recover from these blows -- but not with the Astros.
