The following night, the Yanks wrapped up the sweep, the 25th World Championship, the title of Team of the Decade (it ain't about Division Titles, Braves fans), and the title, as NBC's Bob Costas said that next night, of "Most Successful Franchise of the Century."
Like fellow late 1990s Yankee Dynasty players Roger Clemens and John Wetteland, Curtis was among the most faith-vocal players of his era. Also like Clemens and Wetteland, he would later be accused of what would once have been quaintly called "morals charges," relating to his time as a high school athletic trainer in Michigan. He was sentenced to 7 to 15 years in prison, and served 7.

October 26, 1999 was a Tuesday. Football was in midweek. The NBA season started 7 days later. There were 4 games played in the NHL:
* The Vancouver Canucks beat the Philadelphia Flyers, 5-2 at the First Union Center (now the Xfinity Mobile Arena) in Philadelphia.
* The Atlanta Thrashers beat the Calgary Flames, 2-1 at the Philips Arena (now the State Farm Arena) in Atlanta. The Flames had played in Atlanta from their 1972 inception until 1980, and the Thrashers had avenged the Flames' move in just their 1st month of regular season play. But the Thrashers failed in Atlanta, too: In 2011, they moved, to become the new version of the Winnipeg Jets.
* The Edmonton Oilers beat the Phoenix Coyotes, 3-1 at the Skyreach Centre, as the Northlands Coliseum was then known.
* And the Los Angeles Kings beat the Washington Capitals, 5-2 at the Staples Center (now the Crypto.com Arena) in Los Angeles.
