September 1, 2021: Hurricane Ida strikes the Northeastern United States. New York City and many other places were flooded. It forced the shutdown of the New York Subway system.
It had hit Louisiana 3 days earlier, on the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina hitting the State, and devastating New Orleans. Ida's clobbering of the Pelican State wasn't nearly as bad as Katrina's was, but it was bad enough to kill several people.
Unlike Katrina, Ida did not then dissipate over the American Southeast. It kept moving northeast, until reaching the major cities. The death toll was 107, and the damage toll was $75 billion. It was the 4th-costliest Atlantic hurricane.
