NOTE: Although this entry is from after 2022, I have backdated all entries from after that year to the corresponding date in 2022.
August 9, 2026: The Sacramento Athletics beat the Boston Red Sox, 4-3 at Fenway Park in Boston. The A's tied the game in the top of the 8th, and won it in the top of the 9th, when Max Muncy doubled Donovan Walton home.
Jacob Wilson went 1-for-4 for the A's. He also had 3 putouts and 3 assists, without making an error. That made this his 111th consecutive game at shortstop without an error, a new major league record. The old record was set by Mike Bordick of the Baltimore Orioles in 2022.
A native of Los Angeles, Jacob Wilson is the son of Jack Wilson, also a major league shortstop, who made the 2004 All-Star Game with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Jacob debuted with the A's in 2024, their last season in Oakland. He made the All-Star Game in 2025, and began his streak on July 7 of that season.
He was placed on the Injured List with shoulder stiffness after the A's game of August 16, 2026, but Major League Baseball recognizes errorless streaks, and also hitting streaks, as still being in progress if a game is played without a player entering it, so his streak is stalled, but not ended, at 115 games. If he returns to action in 2027 -- given MLB's current labor situation, I could say, "If anyone returns to action in 2027" -- his next game would be recognized as his 116th, his next the 117th, and so on until he makes another error.
