June 20, 2010: The Seattle Mariners beat the Cincinnati Reds, 1-0 at Safeco Field (now T-Mobile Park) in Seattle. Ryan Rowland-Smith outpitched future Mariner Aaron Harang. The only run of the game came in the bottom of the 4th inning, when Franklin Gutiérrez hit a sacrifice fly to score Chone Figgins. Ichiro Suzuki went 0-for-4. Ken Griffey Jr., in his final season, having returned to the Mariners after having been away, including with the Reds, did not play.
Casey Kotchman replaced Mike Carp at 1st base in the top of the 8th inning. He had 3 putouts, with no assists, and did not make an error. In so doing, he played his 239th consecutive errorless game at 1st base, setting a new major league record.
He surpassed the record of Kevin Youkilis, who had played errorless ball for the Boston Red Sox from 2006 to 2008. On August 21, 2010, Kotchman's streak came to an end at 274 games.
A native of St. Petersburg, Florida, Casey John Kotchman played in the major leagues from 2004 to 2013. He reached the postseason with the Anaheim Angels in his rookie season, and with the Red Sox in 2009, as Youkilis' backup.

* The New York Yankees beat the New York Mets, 4-0 at Yankee Stadium. CC Sabathia pitched 8 innings of 4-hit shutout ball, and Mariano Rivera pitched a perfect 9th, outpitching Johan Santana. Mark Teixeira drove in all of the game's runs with a grand slam. Derek Jeter went 2-for-4. Alex Rodriguez went 0-for-4.
* The Boston Red Sox beat the Los Angeles Dodgers, 2-0 at Fenway Park in Boston. I realize Fenway is a little green pinball machine, but it shouldn't take 3 pitchers to pitch a 4-hit shutout there. Clay Buchholz allowed 3 hits over 6 2/3rds innings, Daniel Bard allowed 1 over an inning and 1/3rd, and Jonathan Papelbon pitched a perfect 9th. David Ortiz went 0-for-2 with a walk, and had an RBI on a sacrifice fly.
* The Minnesota Twins beat the Philadelphia Phillies, 4-1 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. Carl Pavano did something he sure didn't seem capable of doing when he pitched for the Yankees: He outpitched Roy Halladay. Denard Span and Justin Morneau hit home runs. Wilson Valdez hit one for the Phils. Other than that, they only got 3 hits: Singles by Ryan Howard, Chase Utley and Plácido Polanco.
* The Chicago White Sox beat the Washington Nationals, 6-3 at Nationals Park in Washington.
* The Florida Marlins beat the Tampa Bay Rays, 4-1 at Sun Life Stadium (now Hard Rock Stadium) in Miami Gardens, Florida.
* The Atlanta Braves beat the Kansas City Royals, 8-5 at Turner Field (now Center Parc Stadium) in Atlanta.
* The San Francisco Giants beat the Toronto Blue Jays, 9-6 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.
* The Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Cleveland Indians, 5-3 at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.
* The Detroit Tigers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks, 3-1 at Comerica Park in Detroit.
* The Chicago Cubs beat the Los Angeles Angels, 12-1 at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
* The Oakland Athletics beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 3-2 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
* The Texas Rangers beat the Houston Astros, 5-4 at Minute Maid Park (now Daikin Park) in Houston. Josh Hamilton singled Julio Borbon home with the winning run in the top of the 10th inning.
* The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Colorado Rockies, 6-1 at Coors Field in Denver.
* And the San Diego Padres beat the Baltimore Orioles, 9-4 at Petco Park in San Diego.
Three games were played in the World Cup in South Africa:
* Brazil beat the Ivory Coast, 3-1 at Soccer City in Johannesburg.
* Paraguay beat Slovakia, 2-0 at Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein.
* Italy and New Zealand played to a 1-1 draw at Mbobela Stadium in Nelspruit.
