May 12, 2022: The Oakland Athletics beat the Detroit Tigers, 5-3 at Comerica Park in Detroit. Seth Brown hit a home run for the A's. A.J. Puk was the winning pitcher, in relief of James Kaprielian.
Robbie Grossman went 0-for-4 for the Tigers, although he had an RBI on a groundout. More significantly, he caught 4 fly balls, and did not make an error. This meant that he had now played 401 consecutive games without making an error. This made him not just the record-holder for left fielders, but for all players. He surpassed the record of Nick Markakis.
UPDATE: Grossman's streak began on June 13, 2018, and ended on July 10, 2022, at 440 games, over 4 years and just under 1 month, when he dropped a pop-up off of the bat of Luis Robert of the Chicago White Sox.
Born in 1989 in San Diego, Grossman was a "good-field-no-hit player." He played in the major leagues from 2013 to 2024, and he batted just .242. But he reached the postseason with the Houston Astros in 2015 (but was not put on their postseason roster), the Minnesota Twins in 2017, the Oakland Athletics in 2019 and 2020, the Atlanta Braves after being traded their later in 2022, and winning the 2023 World Series with the Texas Rangers.

May 12, 2022 was a Thursday. These 7 other Major League Baseball games were played that day:
* The New York Yankees beat the Chicago White Sox, 15-7 at Guaranteed Rate Field (now just "Rate Field") in Chicago. Jonathan Loáisiga blew a lead for Luis Gil, but ended up as the winning pitcher. Giancarlo Stanton went 3-for-4 with 2 home runs, a walk, and 6 RBIs. Aaron Judge went 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk, and 4 RBIs. Josh Donaldson went 2-for-5 with a home run and 3 RBIs. DJ LeMahieu went 3-for-5 with a walk and an RBI.
* The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals, 4-1 at Nationals Park in Washington. Taijuan Walker outpitched Joan Adon. Mark Canha went 3-for-4 with a home run and 3 RBIs. Juan Soto hit a home run -- for the Nats, and their only run.
* The Cincinnati Reds beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 4-0 at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. Connor Overton pitched 6 1/3rd innings of 3-hit shutout ball, and 2 relievers finished the 4-hit shutout.
* The Houston Astros beat the Minnesota Twins, 5-0 at Target Field. It shouldn't take 4 men to pitch a shutout in Minneapolis -- well, not since the Twins moved out of the Metrodome, anyway -- but Luis Garcia allowed 5 hits over 5 innings, and 3 relievers completed a 7-hit shutout.
* The Baltimore Orioles beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 3-2 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
* The Texas Rangers beat the Kansas City Royals, 3-1 at Globe Life Field in the Dallas suburb of Arlington, Texas.
* And the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Los Angeles Dodgers, 9-7 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
Football was out of season. Two games were played in the NBA Playoffs. The Miami Heat beat the Philadelphia 76ers, 99-90 at the Wells Fargo Center (now the Xfinity Mobile Arena) in Philadelphia. And the Dallas Mavericks beat the Phoenix Suns, 113-86 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.
And there were 4 games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs:
* The Boston Bruins beat the Carolina Hurricanes, 5-2 at the TD Garden in Boston.
* The Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Toronto Maple Leafs, 4-3 at the Amalie Arena (now the Benchmark International Arena) in Tampa. Brayden Point scored the winning goal with 1:56 left in the 1st overtime.
* The St. Louis Blues beat the Minnesota Wild, 5-1 at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis.
* And the Edmonton Oilers beat the Los Angeles Kings, 4-2 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
